Catastrophic hard drive failure on my laptop. Everything's gone. Had backups for a lot of stuff. Some little tiny stuff gone. Let this be a lesson to everyone else today - backup, 'cause you never know when hard drives are gonna let you down.
And really, what good is your backup media? I've had CDs that 'crashed' on me too! Some realy good quality ones. Not because they were too scratched. They somehow just became unreadable! So i guess you're either left with the internet or quality by quantity.
Sucks! Got an external hard drive last thanksgiving which turned out to be a really good investment. The newer ones come with a push button that will backup all the folders you specify...thats pretty neat and time efficient. On the positive side, you could load Vistas beta version on the new hard drive
Sad. I am meaning to get an external USB HDD for quite some time, and now I see your story, and looks like I must get it asap.
The problem is -- choosing a filesystem. I can use FAT32, but not reliable. I can use ext3/reiserfs, but I can't plug it into a Windowz box, and Linux NTFS writing isn't very good yet so risking that may not be a good idea.
Maybe I'll make 2 partitions and store stuffs independently.
